Privacy Notice
Last updated Oct 30, 2026
Short version: you can read every article without an account. We set no cookies, run no third-party trackers or ads, and never receive your voice recordings. The only personal data we can hold is an email address you choose to give us for the Pro waitlist.
What we collect
| Data | When | Why | Kept |
|---|---|---|---|
| Email address | Only if you join the Pro waitlist | To tell you when Pro launches | Until launch, or until you ask us to delete it |
| Anonymous usage counts | When you open an article, play audio, look up a word, record yourself, open the Pro window or click a partner link | To learn which features help people study, and improve them | Daily totals, kept while the service runs |
Usage counts are stored as a number per day, per action and per article (for example “12 word lookups on article X today”). We do not store IP addresses, device identifiers, user IDs or cookies with them, so the counts cannot be linked back to you.
What stays on your device
- Voice recordings. When you record yourself for shadowing, the audio stays in your browser's memory and is deleted when you leave the page. It is never uploaded.
- Player settings. Your playback speed and shadowing choice are saved in your browser's local storage (
knk-player). - Waitlist status. A copy of your waitlist email is kept in local storage (
knk-pro-waitlist) so the form remembers you. Clearing your browser data removes both.
Services that process data for us
- Cloudflare hosts the site and the database. Like any web host it handles technical data such as IP addresses to deliver pages and block attacks. We do not store or look up those addresses. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Your browser's text-to-speech. Audio is produced by the voice built into your browser or operating system. Some online voices (for example Google or Microsoft “Natural” voices) send the sentence text to that company to synthesise it. Only the article sentence is sent, never anything about you.
- Partner sites. Links to Preply, Airalo and Amazon are affiliate links. We only count the click; once you arrive, that site's own privacy policy applies.
We do not sell, rent or share personal data with anyone else.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to show, correct or delete the email address we hold for you, or withdraw your waitlist sign-up, by writing to contact@k-newskorean.com. We reply within 10 days. You can also use the site fully without giving us any personal data.
Children
The site is meant for general and adult learners. We do not knowingly collect email addresses from children under 14. If you believe a child has joined the waitlist, contact us and we will delete the address.
Changes
If we start collecting anything new, for example when Pro memberships open, we will update this page first and change the date above.
